Abstract
Thirty-three patients with a bronchial adenoma were operated on at the New York Hospital from 1932 to 1970. The clinical history, results of physical examination, and x-ray presentation were not specific for the diagnosis. Bronchoscopic examination and tumor biopsy were the most useful diagnostic tools. Eighty-eight percent (29) of the patients had a bronchial adenoma of the carcinoid type and 12% (four) were of the cylindroid type. Survival rate was 95% (28) in the carcinoid group at five years, but all four patients in the cylindroid group died from the tumor. Pulmonary resection was found to be the treatment of choice.
