Intramesenteric Perforation of Colon Diverticulitis

John W. Bell, MD

AMA Arch Surg. 1971;102(5):471-473.

Abstract

Three cases of intramesenteric perforation of colon diverticula illustrate the clinical variations of this disease. Very often the acute illness occurs de novo without a past history of diverticulitis. This lesion can masquerade as cholangitis and may result in a negative biliary tract exploration. The barium enema can give equivocal findings. This experience leads to suggestions for operative diagnosis and treatment.
