Abstract
Two hundred and fifty-three intravenous regional anesthetics (mepivacaine hydrocholoride) were administered to 252 patients requiring operations on the extremities. In the 216 patients where the dose was 4.3 to 8.6 mg in 0.6% solution per kilogram body weight, 212 experienced good results in that no other agent was necessary. Experience with other doses and concentrations showed that the above fluid volume and dose was critical. No toxic complications were experienced.
