Surgical Management of Multiple Aneurysms of the Sinuses of Valsalva

Richard J. Cleveland, MD; Ronald J. Nelson, MD; Arnold L. Nedelman, MD; Michael Criley, MD; Maurice Lippmann, MD

AMA Arch Surg. 1971;103(1):44-47.

Abstract

A patient presented with congestive heart failure due to rupture of the left coronary leaflet of the aortic valve. She responded to medical treatment of the aortic insufficiency but since x-ray study showed multiple sinus of Valsalva aneurysms, one of which grew in size under observation, and since she developed angina pectoris, operative treatment was undertaken. One of the aneurysms was treated by oversewing of its ostium and a prosthetic ball valve was placed to reinforce this and to occlude the ostia of the other aneurysm. Recovery was uneventful.
