Potentiation Between Intestinal and Gastric Phases of Acid Secretion in Heidenhain Pouches

John R. N. Curt, FRCS; Jaimie Isaza, MD; Edward R. Woodward, MD; Lester R. Dragstedt, PhD, MD

AMA Arch Surg. 1971;103(6):709-712.

Abstract

Dogs were prepared each with a Heidenhain pouch and with a vagusdenervated, isolated antrum pouch. Acid production in response to simultaneous stimulation of the intestinal phase of gastric secretion by feeding, and the antral phase by irrigation of the antrum with a solution of acetylcholine was sufficiently greater than the sum of that caused by their individual stimulations, to suggest potentiation of the two mechanisms.
