Abstract
A method for tangential excision of subdermal and deep intradermal burns has been developed and used on 42 patients. No anesthesia is necessary. Blood loss is minimal. Porcine xenografts or cadaver allografts were used as temporary dressings following the tangential excision in 25 of the patients. The results indicate that the procedure is safe and permits earlier permanent closure of deep burns. The survival in the 20 highrisk patients over the age of 50 years who were treated by tangential excision was particularly encouraging.
