Abstract
Forty-four patients operated on since January 1950 comprise this study. The disease appeared to originate in the stomach in 39 patients. A resection of varying extent was undertaken for cure in 16 patients; only two have died of lymphoma and there are ten five-year survivors to date. There are no five-year survivors in 24 patients whose disease was clearly beyond surgical cure, irrespective of treatment. There are two five-year survivors in a group of four patients whose lesion could have been resected but then, for various reasons, irradiation was the definitive treatment. Prognosis in gastric lymphoma is twice as good as in gastric carcinoma. Subclassification of lymphoma showed no practical value in this small series.
