Abstract
Criteria are set forth for the diagnosis of a case as spontaneous perforation of a normal gallbladder. To the authors' knowledge, strict application of the proposed criteria reveals that spontaneous perforation of a completely normal gallbladder has never been described. Our case is the fourth reported instance of spontaneous perforation of grossly normal gallbladder without evidence of acute inflammation or stones.
