Abstract
Dissecting aneurysm has been observed as a late complication of aortic valve replacement in three patients. The frequency of this potentially catastrophic problem is reviewed as well as the predisposing hemodynamic factors. The use of central flow valves in patients with cystic medial necrosis, elective ascending aortic replacement or reinforcement, and control of hypertension may help to prevent late dissection.
