Abstract
Following partial ligation of an intercostal artery at thoracotomy, a poststenotic aneurysm developed over a four-year period. It eventually eroded the ribs and ruptured locally, causing a pulsating hematoma that became infected and caused Escherichia coli septicemia. The aneurysm remained undetected, and further rupture caused death.
