Benign Polypoid Adenoma of the Ampulla of Vater

Treatment by Double Sphincteroplasty

Joseph P. Archie, Jr, MD; Harry M. Murray, Jr, MD

Arch Surg. 1978;113(2):180-181.

Abstract

• A patient with a symptomatic duodenal polyp was found at operation to have a 4 cm diameter adenomatous polyp of the ampulla of Vater, with both the common bile duct and pancreatic duct passing through the stalk and emptying from the polyp. The polyp was excised at the base of the stalk, and the two ducts reconstructed by a double spincteroplasty technique. The postoperative course and 21/2 year follow-up have been uneventful.
