Managed care and the community surgeon

Managed care is rapidly spreading in the United States. Although it has led to reduced costs, the patient-physician relationship has been negatively affected. Managed care has an impact on patient care, student learning, and residency training. Physicians must act together to maintain a quality medical care system in this country.
