This atlas was published in 1993 and remains a must-read for surgical residents and vascular fellows. The author has taken his experience from more than 25 years in the practice of vascular surgery and put together, in my estimation, the atlas of vascular surgery for young surgical residents in training. In addition, it serves as a reference for alternative techniques and a refresher for established surgeons who may use some of these vascular exposures infrequently.

The author initially undertook this atlas to describe basic and essential techniques required in the proper performance of vascular surgical procedures. As it evolved, he decided to add vascular exposures and combine the 2 into this volume. The author says "knowing how to get there" and "what to do when you get there" are the essential components of any surgical operation.
