Dedicated to the founding members of the Pacific Coast Surgical Association who had faith in the future greatness of the States bordering the Pacific Ocean and had the foresight to realize that the surgical care of the exploding population of this region would be immeasurably improved by the establishment of a surgical society dedicated to the advancement of surgical knowledge.1
THE COVER of the August 1998 edition of the Archives of Surgery carries pictures of the 35 founding members of the Pacific Coast Surgical Association (PCSA) (Figure 1). This issue publishes the scientific publications of the Association's 69th Annual Meeting held at the Hyatt Regency Maui, Hawaii, September 15-17, 1998.
