This book represents an ambitious attempt to combine a surgical anatomy text with a surgical atlas focused on the treatment of malignant diseases. The authors feel that such a text is needed "because the teaching of anatomy has all but disappeared from the medical school curriculum of today."

The 20 chapters in this text cover virtually every anatomical site of interest, with the exception of the extremities, for surgeons with a primary focus on cancer, and the illustrations are of very high quality. Each chapter also contains a special section dealing with the influence of anatomical relationships on potential surgical complications.

Two general comments are in order. First, this is truly a surgical and not a regional anatomy text. The anatomical illustrations are focused on structures in the immediate vicinity of the organ or tissues to be resected and not on the overall anatomical regions in which these structures are . . .
