Marvin Corman's latest and fourth edition of Colon and Rectal Surgery should be on every surgeon's shelf and accessible to all general, colorectal, and gastroenterology residents.

The new text has added 13 new chapters and more than 200 new pages. This book's foundation is the work of Dr Corman, his fine writing style, and his interjection of personal opinion on controversial issues. This book has been improved and modified through 3 prior editions beginning in 1984. Until now it has been primarily the work of one well-respected colorectal surgeon. Dr Corman has now added 15 coauthors. These include new chapters on anatomy, physiology, analgesia, trauma, polypoid diseases and pathology, colorectal manifestations of human immunodeficiency virus infection, laparoscopic colectomy, and enterostomal therapy. Pediatric surgical problems are again well covered, as in the last edition, by Dr Alberto Pena.
