Gastroschisis is a full-thickness abdominal wall defect with no peritoneal sac, usually presenting to the right of the umbilicus, with herniated uncovered intestine that is often malrotated and shortened. An omphalocele is an abdominal wall defect at the umbilicus, with herniated bowel, which is covered by a membrane (amnion) derived from the peritoneum.1
