This volume has a several of unique features, commencing with the editorship; both editors are eminent surgeons in the field of endocrine surgery and come from the United States and Japan. The book is comprehensive in the area of a relatively uncommon malignancy, the authorship deriving from North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Japan. It purports to cover the globe and acknowledges geographic differences in both the incidence and the behavior of thyroid cancer. The next edition may extend its authorship to Asia, the antipodes, and Oceania; this event is to be savored in advance.
The volume is authoritative and contains a fine mixture of collective experience, analytic review, and evaluation of "cutting-edge" techniques. The evidentiary material is somewhat thin in relation to randomized controlled trials, but available information is effectively incorporated.
