The opening sentence of the preface to the first edition of this formidable 1978 publication stated, "Renal transplantation is now an accepted treatment for patients in end-stage renal failure." The fifth edition accurately reflects the dramatic progress that has occurred in this discipline during the quarter of a century since Sir Peter Morris, FRS, made that observation. The book contains 43 chapters written by 67 carefully chosen contributors from Oxford University and other medical centers throughout the world. Although the information contained in each chapter could justify a publication in its own right, the inclusion under one cover makes the book a readily available source of information at arm's length. The layout of the contents and index pages makes the material easily accessible, and the quality of the illustrations is superb. It is bound in an attractive format and covers every conceivable aspect of renal transplantation.
