Simultaneous Submission Should Not Result in Simultaneous Publication

I regret to inform the readership that another case of dual publication has occurred. The paper titled "Cutaneous Burns Treated With Hydrogel (Burnshield) and a Semipermeable Adhesive Film," authored by Enzo Osti, MD (Arch Surg. 2006;141:39-42) was previously published in September 2004 in the Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters (2004;17:137-141), practically word for word. It seems the author simultaneously submitted this article, and Archives of Surgery received the manuscript June 30, 2004, and accepted it for publication on April 5, 2005. Not known to us at that time, the same article had been submitted to the Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters on February 17, 2004, and was published in the September 2004 issue.

We have asked for but have yet to receive a letter of apology from Dr Osti. His only correspondence was received on March 22, 2006, in which he admitted submitting the article to . . . [Full Text of this Article]
