The Duet—Mission and Vision

Our mission remains the same: "To promote the art and science of surgery by publishing relevant peer-reviewed clinical and basic science information to assist the surgeon in optimizing patient care. The Archives of Surgery will also serve as a forum for the discussion of issues that involve ethics, teaching, surgical history, and socioeconomic concerns." Our vision is to become the "best" surgical journal out there—but what is best?

We are now receiving more than 40% more manuscript submissions than 2 years ago. Because so many manuscripts are being submitted, the editorial board of the Archives has decided to dedicate only 1 issue per year to each of our affiliated societies: the New England Surgical Society, the Western Surgical Association, and the Pacific Coast Surgical Association.
