The article "Pathogenesis of Barrett Esophagus: Deoxycholic Acid Up-Regulates Goblet-Specific Gene MUC2 in Concert With CDX2 in Human Esophageal Cells"1 by Yingchuan Hu, Carolyn Jones, Oliver Gellersen, Valerie A. Williams, Thomas J. Watson, and Jeffrey Peters, published in the June 2007 issue of Archives of Surgery, contains duplicative elements of another article by the same authors in the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, published online on April 26, 2007, and in print in July 2007.2 The methodology text is nearly identical and a portion of the gel expression in Figure 1 is identical.

The following response was written by Dr Peters after he was informed that this notice would be published.

The authors would like to most sincerely apologize and express our regret over the inadvertent duplicate publication of a portion of messenger RNA gel expression Figure 1 of the paper entitled "Pathogenesis of Barrett . . . [Full Text of this Article]
