New International Advisory Board Member Announcement

The Archives is pleased to announce the appointment of distinguished surgeons Edwin C. Jesudason, MBBChir, MA, FRCS (Paed), MD, Jonathan B. Koea, MBChB, MD, FRACS, Antoon E. Lerut, MD, FRCS, and Jacques Marescaux, MD, FRCS, to our International Advisory Board.

Edwin C. Jesudason, MBBChir, MA, FRCS(Paed), MD, received medicine, surgery, and philosophy degrees from the University of Cambridge, Cambridge, England. He is a fellow and previous Hunterian Professor of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a consultant pediatric surgeon at Alder Hey Children's Hospital, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, England. Dr Jesudason has been awarded the David Dunn Scholarship of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (undertaken at the University of California, San Francisco), the Clinician Scientist Fellowship by the United Kingdom Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Leadership Fellowship by The Health Foundation. Dr Jesudason specializes in surgery for birth defects and pediatric tumors.

Jonathan B. Koea, MBChB, MD, FRACS, received his medical degrees from the University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr Koea completed both an international fellowship in surgical oncology and a hepatobiliary fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York. He is currently a clinical associate professor and hepatobiliary and oncology surgeon in the Department of Surgery, Auckland City Hospital, Auckland. Dr Koea specializes in the surgical management of liver, bile duct, and gallbladder diseases.

Jonathan B. Koea, MBChB, MD, FRACS


Antoon E. Lerut, MD, FRCS, received his medical degree from the Catholic University Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. His residency in surgery was completed at the University Hospital St. Raphaël, Leuven. Dr Lerut is a board-certified surgeon and diplomat of the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr Lerut is presently the chair of the Department of Thoracic Surgery, University Hospital Gasthuisberg, Catholic University Leuven. He has served as president of both the European Surgical Association and the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the American Surgical Association, and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery.

Antoon E. Lerut, MD, FRCS


Jacques Marescaux, MD, FRCS, received his medical degree from the Strasbourg Medical School, Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France. He completed his surgical residency at the same institution. Dr Marescaux is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is chairman and head of the Department of Digestive and Endocrine Surgery, University Hospital of Strasbourg, Strasbourg. He is also president of the Research Institute Against Digestive Cancer/European School of Telesurgery.
