This book is a collaborative effort by the Co-Director and the Medical Director of a Stoma Rehabilitation Clinic, which has been a successful pioneer effort to provide consultative advice to stoma patients. The clinic originated as a spin-off from the activities of Q T Boston, in its turn one of the pioneer mutual aid ileostomy "Clubs" now almost 20 years old. The book deals largely with the vast experience of the Q T Boston Group, but the specific information imparted to the reader derives from the responses to a questionnaire to 1,425 ileostomy patients.

The book is written for patients, doctors, and paramedical personnel. It contains nothing on surgical technique nor on the various types of appliances, but these are covered in an excellent bibliography. It does provide an understanding of ileostomy and its impact on the individual in an authoritative manner that has not been recorded before. After dispassionately . . .
