This book on organ transplantation is the second edition of a volume which was originally published only in German in 1966. It is well organized and a valuable addition to the current transplantation bibliography as a reference book for medical students, resident staff, and clinicians involved with the care of transplant problems. This book has certain unique aspects that are in part related to the fact that it does represent primarily a European experience with transplantation and an attempt on the part of Dr. Largiader to present a viewpoint which is more international in concept that the usual text published in the United States.
There are four major sections to this book, representing general aspects of transplantation problems, specific features of individual organ transplants, a review of artificial and temporary organ support, and an appendix section involving primarily legal and ethical aspects of transplantation.
