On this occasion it is a temptation to parade before you a review of the fine accomplishments of the Western Surgical Association for this past year, and to thank you for the privilege and honor of serving as your President. I do thank you for that privilege and honor, but instead of the parade I would much rather talk with you about some exciting "challenges and changes" that I believe are coming that will importantly affect us all as practicing physicians, and particularly as specialists and members of the Western Surgical Association.
Many of you know that I have served on the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association since 1961. The commitment of my personal time and effort to this responsibility has been substantial. I have felt that service on this council constitutes an enormous responsibility that is coupled with an exciting opportunity to maintain and improve
