This panel was designed to present information about the treatment of hand problems commonly encountered in the emergency room. The three members of our panel are all recognized for their expertise and daily commitment to hand surgery. Each received the same set of ten questions and each replied without knowing the responses of the others. It will be apparent, but it should not be surprising, that they frequently differ in the management of the same clinical situation. As a matter of fact, many of the questions were chosen to highlight this controversy in the care of the traumatized hand. That experts disagree should not lead to the conclusion that "anything goes." Not all methods are acceptable and although several may be, success or failure depends upon the skill of the surgeon. Caveat Amateur!
