A noteworthy collection of essays entitled Surgery of the Gastrointestinal Tract has recently been released by Intercontinental Medical Book Corporation. It is edited by Drs. Najarian and Delaney who first organized a postgraduate course by the same name at the University of Minnesota, and now have published the proceedings in a tightly written volume full of valuable state of the art information covering a wide variety of clinical problems.
The work is organized in seven sections dealing with a spectrum of disease states ranging from esophagitis to carcinoma of the rectum. Each division concludes with a "general discussion" characterized by critical and informative interchange between essayists and moderator that is often—and surprisingly—sparked by wit, irony, and humor.
