This volume contains "selected papers and discussion" from the annual continuing education course at the University of Minnesota Medical School (date not specified). Books born of courses and symposia are usually uneven in their format and quality, and Advances in Cancer Surgery is no exception. Although it is directed to the general surgeon, any reader interested in cancer (and all physicians should be) will cull much that is worthwhile from this book's broad range: environmental carcinogens, viruses, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, screening techniques, influences on metastases, lymphomas, head and neck cancer, melanomas and other skin malignancies, intrathoracic tumors, sarcomas, breast cancer, radical node dissection, pediatric malignancies, and ovarian and testicular tumors.

In addition to formal chapters, panel discussions are also included. There is much to learn from the distinguished faculty's perspectives and experience.
