Douglas Whitehead has edited a handsome volume of urological surgical experiences. This is not a classical textbook of medical or surgical practice nor do the authors intend it to be. Centered around a core of "86 published (scientific) papers considered to be of singular value" the book represents a compact source for current urological thought and practice. Most of the featured articles have been written in the past ten years and are accompanied by an author's commentary updating his experience to the present. In addition, the authors provide a bibliography of other relevant articles that they review and comment on. Some of the sections are superb, particularly where the central article is a recognized classic. The chapter on nephrolithotomy features two complementary articles, one by E. A.
