To the Editor.—I have noticed that some general surgeons continue to repair umbilical hernias in young adults through a generous infraumbilical or supraumbilical incision that leaves a prominent surgical scar (Fig 1). Most patients, in my opinion, would prefer to have the skin incision placed completely within an umbilical skin fold; exposure for repair is adequate and the surgical scar is competely concealed (Fig 2).
