This book is, in large part, what its title purports it to be—a presentation of some generic concepts related to disorders of the hand and current treatment options for those disorders. The content is articles taken from papers prepared for presentation at the Ninth Annual Rocky Mountain International Seminar on Hand Surgery in 1981. Some of the best and most experienced hand surgeons have set down their thoughts for critique by peers and for education of new entrants to this field in concise and, occasionally, too-short and therefore necessarily didactic form.

The quality and style of presentation varies from chapter to chapter. In most cases, the chapters represent an up-to-date primer on the domain covered by the chapter title. Other chapters represent papers on more esoteric matters by describing techniques under trial and drawing conclusions yet to be proved.
