This book is addressed primarily to the emergency physician but should prove useful to all practitioners who provide primary patient care. It serves as a comprehensive guide to procedures and techniques in emergency medicine and, unlike many previously published texts, presents a fully referenced, objective review of emergency medical procedures.

The book is succinctly and lucidly written. An extensive index at the beginning of each chapter reflects the excellent organization of subject matter. In addition, abundant, skillfully executed illustrations should enable even the novice to perform the procedures with a minimum of difficulty.

The 11 chapters deal with anesthesia and regional blocks, plastic surgery principles and techniques, and abdominal, vascular, airway, cardiothoracic, urologic, neurosurgical, orthopedic, otolaryngologic, ophthalmologic, dental, obstetric, and gynecologic procedures. Indications, contraindications, required equipment, and complications of each technique are discussed, and step-by-step instructions to facilitate their performance are provided.
