It isn't easy to write a good second edition of an original stunner but these authors have done it. Ten years ago, Egdahl published a manual on endocrine surgery as one of the first volumes in this now extensive series (14 books have already been published). The current edition reflects not only progressive editing but also reflects the explosive growth of endocrine surgery as a specialty during the past decade. The first edition was primarily an operative atlas with emphasis on operative illustrations. The second edition by Egdahl, Grant (Mayo), and Edis (Perth) is a management manual or textbook of endocrinology that also includes both the old and some new graphics and illustrations of operative techniques. The algorithms and diagrams are simple and clear, yet sophisticated. They predictably will be pirated for teaching slides by Egdahl's colleagues in endocrine surgery.
