The book is an edited collection of reports given at the Annual Utah Post-graduate Course in Anesthesiology in 1984. The 13 authors of the articles are all well-known authorities in their field of cardiovascular anesthesiology.

I found the book to be easily readable and to contain a large number of subjects of interest to the cardiovascular anesthesiologist. It was my opinion (and, I believe, the authors') that the book was not published as a reference source in cardiovascular anesthesiology, but there are many small, practical bits of information in the book that may or may not be part of any particular cardiovascular anesthesiologist's armamentarium. I believe that the true emphasis of the book is its almost philosophical approach to a large number of knotty problems that face cardiovascular anesthesiologists each and every day.
