CONVENTIONAL wisdom has it that there are at least two sides to every issue, and Chabner, given an opportunity we did not have, has presented his view. More important than the differences in the way the two of us read the "facts" is the difference we place on the meaning of some of the episodes. We do agree on the unfortunate manner in which LSU's position was brought to the attention of the public.
However, my purpose in writing was not to call attention to LSU. Rather, it was to point out the serious effects on all phases of clinical research that have accrued from the handling of this episode.
