IT IS A VERY GREAT HONOR and privilege for me to have served as your president this past year. The Pacific Coast Surgical Association is unique among surgical societies. It provides an opportunity to see our members in both a professional and a personal way that is unparalleled in any other society of which I am aware. It is very rare that one gets the opportunity to speak publicly on a topic of one's choice to such a captive audience. This is also a unique opportunity to acknowledge and thank some individuals who have played a very important part in my being able to stand here and speak to you today. Dr Robert M. Zollinger taught me surgery and also persistence in pursuing my goals with attention to detail. Dr William P.
