TUMORS

Synoviatoma.

—Under the name of synoviatoma, Smith³⁴ reported a group of three unusual tumors which appeared to originate from synovial membrane or similar tissue. In the first patient the tumor arose in the fascia in Hunter's canal, and the patient died at the end of six months supposedly from pulmonary metastases. Microscopically, the tumor was composed of anastomosing clefts lined by low cuboidal epithelium and separated by cords of spindle shaped cells. The second patient was a Jewess, aged 24, with a tumor extending down the thigh under Poupart's ligament. She died at the end of three years of pulmonary metastases. The third patient was a man of 35, with a tumor on the inner side of the knee. Death resulted at the end of two and one-half years, again from pulmonary metastases.
