Since publication of the original article on this subject by one of us (H. R. A.), we have performed four more such operations, bringing the total to 5.

The reader is referred to the original article¹ for technic and illustrations of the procedure.

The second, third and fourth operations were carried out exactly as was originally described.¹ The second patient was operated on in December 1937. She was 68 years of age and well nourished. Her recovery was uneventful, and today she is well, with a normal anus, normal control of the bowel and no sign of recurrence. The third patient was a man 77 years of age and a poor surgical risk. He died on the tenth postoperative day as a result of gangrene of the distal portion of the sigmoid flexure with diffuse peritonitis.
