EVALUATION OF THE INJECTION TREATMENT OF HERNIA IN OLDER PATIENTS

The purpose of this paper is to present a brief analysis of cases of hernia treated by the injection method and to indicate the type of case in which this method of treatment is preferable. The consensus among surgeons is that operative measures are the best method of treating hernia. However, the management of older patients is always a problem, especially when another disease coexists. The high percentage of postoperative recurrence in such a group, due to a variety of causes, such as poor wound healing, infections and other complications, invites investigation of less hazardous procedures which promise relief. There is also a large group of younger patients who refuse operation because of fear, because of inability to meet the economic burden incurred or because they are unwilling to take "time off" for the operation.
