KIDNEY
Tuberculosis.
—Wildbolz,1 discussing the early diagnosis and treatment of renal tuberculosis, stated that in many cases in the very early stages of renal tuberculosis the only symptom of the disease is bacilluria. In other cases, however, in addition to bacilluria, slight albuminuria may be observed, together with slight leukocyturia. Many reports have given rise to the impression that in a tuberculous patient tuberculous bacilluria may be present without active disease of the kidney and also that bacilluria without renal tuberculosis may be rather common. However, a survey of the literature fails to disclose a single instance of such a type of bacilluria, according to more modern critical evidence. Nor has it been possible to date to produce tuberculous bacilluria in the absence of tuberculous disease of the kidney.
