REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE AND REPORT OF THE CASE OF AN INFANT

The occurrence in our service of a case of inguinal ectopia of the ovary and fallopian tube prompted us to make a survey of the literature. We have examined the reports to date to determine the incidence of this condition and the outstanding views as to its mechanism of development.

In our review of the literature we found several excellent summaries and compilations of cases. Among them, the reports of Andrews¹ in 1905 and 1906, those of Heineck² in 1912 and 1927 and that of Watson³ in 1923 (revised in 1938) are excellent and complete analyses of reported cases. We decided to bring the compilation to the present, listing the aforementioned data as well as those reported since their publication.
