PROSTATE GLAND

Transurethral Resection.

—Latchem and Emmett²⁶ stated that age is no longer regarded as a contraindication to prostatic operation and that patients of advanced age tolerate transurethral resection almost as well as younger men. During the nine years from 1934 to 1942, inclusive, 345 patients of 80 or more years were treated by transurethral resection at Mayo Clinic. Seventy-four of these patients were 85 or more years of age, and 7 were 90 or more years. On admission, the value for blood urea of 76 of the 345 patients was more than 50 mg. per hundred cubic centimeters, whereas for 20 it was more than 70 mg. per hundred cubic centimeters.
