HERETOFORE there has been no report of a systematic electrophoretic study of a series of human burn patients. Shedlovsky and Scudder1 described an increase in the alpha globulin fraction of a single patient suffering from first, second and third degree burns. Murakami2 studied the chemolytic albumin-globulin ratios of four patients who had suffered first and second degree burns and found that the globulin portion was somewhat increased at the expense of the albumin portion.
In the present investigation, blood protein patterns for a series of burn patients have been studied at regular intervals from the onset of thermal injury, through the period of the body's response to this stress, and until the onset of healing. Altogether, blood serum and blood plasma of eight hospitalized patients suffering primarily second and third degree burns ranging in extent from 10 to 35% of the total surface area of the body have
