—When we wrote our article called "Ligation of the Inferior Vena Cava After Nephrectomy," published in the February, 1956, issue of the A. M. A. ARCHIVES OF SURGERY, we were unaware that, it was to be considered a discussion of the procedure of ligation of the vena cava, in general. We appreciate Dr. Dodson's comments very much, but we believe that they require a little clarification so that our article should not be presented in anything other than the light in which it was intended.

We realize that our drawing is slightly misleading in that it shows the presence of a residual stump of the right renal vein. This is done merely to show the anatomical relationship of the ligature on the vena cava as regards the normal position of the right renal vein.
