In this issue of the A. M. A. ARCHIVES OF SURGERY will be found a paper on "Experimental Hepatic Surgery Employing Differential Hypothermia" by two young medical naval reserve officers on active duty at the U. S. Naval Medical Research Institute in Bethesda, Md. Their exhibit on the same subject won one of the Certificates of Merit in the scientific exhibit section at the recent A. M. A. meeting. In this issue also will be found an editorial on "The Army Residency Training Program in Surgery," which has been so effectively carried out at the Brooke Army Hospital, and one on "Surgical Teaching and Investigation in the United States Air Force."

All of these contributions are examples of the fine work being done in the hospitals and research centers of the armed forces, where facilities for research, clinical investigation, graduate training, and medical therapy are worthy counterparts of similar activities . . .
