Carcinoma of the Prostate with Metastases to the Testicle

Secondary carcinoma of the testicle arising from carcinoma of the prostate has been reported only rarely in the literature. As far as we can ascertain, 26 cases1-12 have been previously published. There are several possible explanations for the infrequent finding of these metastases.

1. The testicle is apparently rarely involved with metastatic tumors from any source. Helfert and Pinck2 found fewer than 50 cases up to 1944. Klinger13 reported 3 cases in 1951, and Price and Mostofi9 in 1957 found 10 additional cases in the literature and added 38 of their own.

2. Possibly the testes removed as a therapeutic measure for prostatic carcinoma have not been examined histologically in some institutions.

3. Even where histological examination is a routine procedure, a small nodule could easily be overlooked.
