Introduction
Ten years ago we reported our experience with the Magnuson-Stack operation for recurrent dislocation of the shoulder.1 At that time we had a follow-up study in 13 consecutive cases. At the present time our series includes 24 cases. The purpose of this report is to present our evaluation of this procedure.
We continue to employ this procedure in preference to all others in the repair of recurrent shoulder dislocations. There exists, however, a difference of opinion as to what constitutes the ideal operative procedure for this recurring problem.
Reasons for Dislocations
It is agreed by most authorities that there are at least three theories to explain the cause of recurrent dislocation of the shoulder joint.
