The purpose of this paper is to present a case of pericardial diverticulum with the unique complication of pulmonary obstruction.
Reports of pericardial diverticula have appeared from time to time in the literature. A large radiological series is available, but extremely few cases have been proved at operation. Brown and Dunn3 reporting in 1951 were able to include with their own case only 6 others from the extant literature2,8,14,16,20 accepting as true or congenital diverticula only those in whose walls both pericardial layers were represented and for which no other probable etiologic factor was demonstrated. Since that date 5 cases have been added, 2 by Fleishaker et al.5 in 1958, 2 by Maier12 in 1957, and 1 by Bishop et al.1 in 1950.
