The recently introduced "iodophor" compounds are reported to retain the germicidal effects of iodine but lack the undesirable properties of alcoholic iodine solutions. Miller10 and Mannix and Dineen9 reported effective antibacterial action without allergic reactions, irritating effects, or prolonged staining after skin preparation with an iodophor, Ioprep.* Ioprep consists of a complex compound of iodine and two nonionic surface active agents. The solution contains a 1% concentration of free or available iodine for antibacterial activity.
